Love Island and social media filters knocking self-esteem in millions of Brits

Millions of Brits have seen their confidence take a nosedive - after being judged by a stranger. A study of 2,000 UK adults found a fifth have had their self-esteem knocked after being looked down on by someone they didn't even know.

A further 17 per cent have felt down on themselves after comparing themselves to a celebrity, and one in 10 put the blame on Love Island.

As a result of their low confidence, more than a quarter of women won't leave the house without 'wearing a filter' and applying some form of makeup.

And a fifth wear makeup in a bid to appear more confident to others than they really are. The research, commissioned by Skin Proud, also found 53 per cent wished they were more confident in their natural skin.
