Lorry flips on M5 motorway as crash forces rush hour road closures

A busy motorway has been locked down this morning after a huge lorry overturned in a rush hour crash.Emergency services raced to the M5, between Cullompton and Exeter, due to the single-vehicle smash on the southbound carriageway shortly before 8am.The road was locked down by police between junctions 27 and 28, with major delays forming in the area, Devon Live reports.A diversion has been put in place via the B3181, with traffic that was already on the motorway being turned around, starting from the rear of the queue.Pictures from the scene show the HGV on its side, blocking all three lanes and the hard shoulder.Traffic cops are at the scene and an investigation is underway into the incident.One person has been injured, though their injuries are not believed to be serious.A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson told Devon Live: "Police were called to reports of a single-vehicle road traffic collision involving a lorry on the southbound carriageway of the M5 between just south of junction 28 at around 7.55am today, Wednesday 20 December."One person is reported to have been injured but the injuries are not thought to be serious at this time.
