Of course, a “slap” from McLeod is not your run-of-the-mill slap. During a pre-Covid trip to China, McLeod was introduced to a Madam Shin, a former geisha den mother living on the outskirts of Beijing and a master in the art of facial sculpting.
McLeod lived with Shin for several weeks, learning how to tone, sculpt, and tighten the skin fibroblasts with rhythmic facial massages, which, in simplest terms, are rapid slaps in the face. “Madam Shin's version was very painful, because she would go in the mouth and do a lot of buckle work on the fascia level," McLeod tells Glamour. "But what I realized was you can translate this idea.
What was she doing? She was energizing and bringing forth increased circulation and blood flow and draining the hell out of the face.
