The mayor of London is responsible for covering policing, transport, housing, planning, economic development, arts, culture and the environment with an annual budget of around £18 billion per year.
Mayors are typically elected for a period of four years, with no limit to the number of terms served. The candidates who stood in this year's mayoral election were incumbent Sadiq Khan (Labour), Susan Hall (Conservative), Rob Blackie (Lib Dem), Zoe Garbett (Green), Howard Cox (Reform UK), Natalie Campbell (Ind), Andreas Michli (Ind) and Count Binface. Polls closed at 10pm on Thursday, May 2. Constituency results of the London mayoral election will be declared first, at each of the 14 counts across the capital on Saturday, May 4.
