When people think of Scotland, many will picture the natural beauty of our hills and glens, or some of our most famous faces like Billy Connolly or Sean Connery.Others will have had their views impacted by films or TV, so may think about Mel Gibson's portrayal of legendary warrior William Wallace in Braveheart, or characters like Jamie Fraser in fantasy drama Outlander. But if people are asked about the greatest Scottish legend - they will almost always mention the Loch Ness Monster.

The myth of Nessie lurking deep in the waters that give her her name is known worldwide.Stories of sightings date back to St Columba in the 6th Century and, with the advances in technology in recent years, more and more Nessie spotters are flocking to the banks of Loch Ness hoping to snap the fabled water beast with their phones or cameras. One such person was John Payne from Newport in Wales.

The 56-year-old was on holiday last April and was soaking up the view from the window of his lochside hotel when he spotted an odd movement in the water. After noticing a "huge neck", the quick-thinking dad-of-three grabbed his camera and took a series of photos, which appear to show a shape above the surface of Loch Ness.Speaking after the sighting, John said: "I was looking out at the scenery from the window and this huge thing just appeared out of nowhere.

I tried to get a picture but it was gone and then it popped up again further down the loch."I took another picture and then zoomed in on my camera in and waited to see if it would appear again and it did.
