‘Utter madness’ Jeremy Clarkson backs farmers after council vows to only serve vegan food

Jeremy Clarkson, 61, has told Oxfordshire farmers he wishes he had known about their protest today as he would have “been there like a shot”. Farmers were speaking out after Oxfordshire County Council proposed banning meat and dairy from council events and only serving vegan produce instead.The Liberal Democrat and Green Alliance run council passed the decision in December in a bid to help meet green targets.Leader of the council Liz Leffman told the BBC: "This is about councillors taking a stand and saying we want to make our planet more sustainable, make agriculture more sustainable and we will source that produce locally wherever we can."The local farmers have hit back and insisted that the council should be supporting local produce instead.Jeremy confirmed on Twitter that he did not attend the protest at Oxford’s County Hall, but said he wished he could have been there.He told his 7.6 million followers: “Farmers of Oxfordshire.
