Bdrmm have shared a new single called ‘Lake Disappointment’ – you can listen to it below. The song serves as the final preview of the Hull band’s third studio album ‘Microtonic’, which is due for release on February 28 via Mogwai’s label Rock Action (pre-order/pre-save here).Following on from their 2024 track ‘John On The Ceiling’ and last month’s ‘Infinity Peaking’, Bdrmm’s latest offering sees the four-piece once again showcase the more electronic side to their sound – this time with a grittier edge.‘Lake Disappointment’ comes after the group decided to delve further into the dance music world with their recent releases.
This move was inspired by supporting Daniel Avery and participating in a group rave at London’s Field Day.Singer and guitarist Ryan Smith described the new single as “probably the most aggressive and exciting song we’ve conjured up”, adding: “I remember sending it to Alex (our producer) and I’ve never seen him so excited about a track.“It was such a dream to work on.
I feel like within all the melancholy of the record there is a lot of anger too. This is us getting that out, and saying ‘fuck you’ to the wrongdoers.”The song is accompanied by a creepy and bizarre official music video, directed by Joe and Scott Gist.
Speaking about the visuals, Smith explained: “I will always hold such a great memory of shooting the video.“We ventured to an abandoned warehouse in Sheffield and recruited an amazing production team and created our own dystopian TV shopping channel (under strong orders [from] our bosses at MicroTech).”He continued: “We must have been sick for a week after, from being stood around in the cold for 12 hours in hospital gowns, but it was worth it.
