Taylor Swift

Taylor Alison Swift is an American singer-songwriter. She is known for narrative songs about her personal life, which have received widespread media coverage. At age 14, Swift became the youngest artist signed by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house and, at 15, she signed her first record deal.

Her 2006 eponymous debut album was the longest-charting album of the 2000s in the US. Its third single, "Our Song", made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number-one song on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008.

Buoyed by the pop crossover success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", it became the US' best-selling album of 2009 and was certified diamond in the US. The album won four Grammy Awards, and Swift became the youngest Album of the Year winner.

Last weekend saw the return of the Linlithgow Union Canal’s fun day which was a resounding success following a three year break due to the pandemic.Crowds flocked to the canal basin in Linlithgow to get involved in the festivities put on by the Linlithgow Union Canal Society drawing in a huge crowd of locals and people from further afield.The winners of this years cardboard boat race were:Peter Coleman in the Colram Cruiser - taking home the British Waterways Trophy.Findlay Erskine in the Batmobile - who won the Reed Band TrophyEmily Fleming in The Best & Wurst boat - winning the Low Port Centre TrophyVal & Garry Withnell in the Lamp - claiming the Yellow Duck TrophyAnd Abbie Scott-Telford in the HMS Nubian - who nabbed the Novice Paddlers Trophy.A spokesperson for the Linlithgow Union Canal Society, Stuart Rennie, said:”I was delighted to see such huge crowds following on from the pandemic.“It’s great to have the fun day alive again and we really appreciate the support from the local community“We’re keen to keep going with the fun day, and reinstate it as an important date in Linlithgow’s community calendar.” ...More pictures in this weeks West Lothian Courier!
