EXCLUSIVE: “Neo, sooner or later you’re going to realize just as I did that there’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path,” states Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus to Keanu Reeve’s character in the Lilly Wachowski’s co-penned and co-helmed The Matrix.
Almost 30 years after the genre and culturally defining Matrix first came out, those words and that worldview are something the filmmaker takes very seriously as a series of grants from Wachowski’s Anarchist United Foundation makes very clear.
Emphasizing the non-profits triple ethos of artistry, diversity, and equity in media, AU has launched three new grant programs of $20,000 each. “In these hard and weird times, Anarchists United Foundation is a necessary response,” founder Wachowski told Deadline today of her 2023 created initiative. “And in supporting artists and uplifting the values of artistry, diversity and equity it will ensure that the future of film and television is as wide and expansive as the citizenry it purports to represent,” the Sense8 co-creator adds.
Submissions for the trio of grants, which you can see below, is open now and runs until November 29, 2024. You can apply here.
