Specialist lighting will be installed on Linwood's Tweedie Hall in the new year in a move inspired by the memory of local boy William McNally. The 13-year-old died on June 5, 2021, after getting into difficulty in the water at the Clay Pits, part of the River Gryffe, while swimming with friends.
Despite the rescue attempts of friends and emergency services, William lost his life some days later.Earlier this year, Councillor Robert Innes promised to "light up Linwood" as he secured funding for LED lighting to be fitted around the town centre hall.
He has since been told this will be in place in early 2024.Councillor Innes said: "I vowed to light up Linwood and I have had confirmation that the LED lighting around the Tweedie Hall will be in place early in the new year.
This is excellent news as it means that William McNally's family will be able to highlight World Drowning Prevention Day in Linwood next year and that is what inspired me to pursue this in the first place."William McNally tragically lost his life in an accident in the River Gryffe.
