A fire engine sent from Scotland to help save lives in Palestine has been impounded by Israel for more than six months.Furious Fire Brigades Union officials are urging the Foreign Office step in and demand its release from customs. The engine, breathing apparatus and kit was shipped 3500 miles from Dundee to the Israeli port of Ashdod where it arrived on July 21.The intention was to then transfer it to a fire station in the city of Nablus in the West Bank. However, despite all the necessary paperwork being in place, the FBU has accused Israeli officials of failing to release the firefighting equipment to Palestinian authorities.
The FBU’s Scotland Executive Council member Colin Brown said: “It is unforgivable that this emergency equipment is being withheld by the Netanyahu government.
