Budget supermarket Lidl has reported 'record' sales over the festive period. While shoppers turned online more than in person for their Boxing Day Sales, the budget supermarket saw an increase in sales.
Lidl revealed that it has seen sales increase by 7 percent year on year. Turnover also went above the £1 billion mark in the four weeks up to December 24.
The supermarket has also increased its share of the grocery market in the UK in 2024. It has opened more locations, and was reported by industry analyst Kantar as the fastest growing bricks and mortar food retailer in the past quarter.
Now, Lidl is closing in on Morrisons to become the fifth-largest supermarket group in the UK. Speaking on January 2, Lidl UK said it had welcomed nearly two million more customers than before over the festive period - a key time of year for retailers.
