Liam Payne was reportedly dealt a major setback in his career days before his tragic death. The 31-year-old 'jumped from the balcony' of his room at the Casa Sur hotel, in Buenos Aires, on Wednesday (October 16), authorities said.

He had been holidaying in the Argentinian capital with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy and had previously told fans he would see former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan while there.

But it's now claimed that Liam suffered a blow a few days earlier, the Mirror reports. It's claimed the singer was dropped by record label Universal Music.

Liam had released one album under the label, LP1 in 2019, which reached number 17 in the UK album chart before dropping out of the top 50 a week later.
