Lesmahagow curler relishing Auld Enemy challenge at Four Nations

Lesmahagow curler Alison Taylor is looking forward to getting stuck into England after being selected as part of the 32-strong Scotland squad for the 2023 Four Nations competition.The weekend social event, played annually between the governing bodies of Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales in January, is being hosted by Ireland at Curl Aberdeen on January 28 and 29.Several prestigious trophies will be played for over the weekend, including the Connie Miller Trophy (Scotland ladies v England ladies, which the Scots hold).Alison, who is ladies’ branch secretary of Scottish Curling, or the Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC) as it’s better known, is joined in the squad by East Kilbride’s Bill Henderson.She says it’s a highly competitive but fun competition, and is looking forward to getting started.Alison said: “The ladies play for the Connie Miller Trophy, which is against big rivals England, as you would think, and the Irish one [Marshall Millennium Trophy] is a good one as well.“This is my year of being president of the ladies’ branch of Scottish Curling, or the Royal Caledonian Curling Club, so I put my name in for this and was selected to play, which is good fun and a good honour.“Everyone within Scottish curling is eligible to put their name in and be selected.”Alison is very experienced in curling and says it has made a lasting impact on her life.She said: “I have been curling for 40-plus years.
