Lena Dunham shared a heartbreaking message on Mother’s Day about the ‘tidal wave of grief’ she feels following her hysterectomy.
The Girls star, 33, underwent the operation in 2018, after years of pain from endometriosis – a condition where tissue behaving like the lining of the womb is found in other parts of the body.
And due to having a hysterectomy – the removal of the uterus and cervix – it means Lena can no longer carry a child. Sunday marked Mother’s Day in the US and sharing an image of her in her hospital bed, prior to having the surgery, Lena reached out to those who may be struggling on the holiday.
