Legendary Hollywood actor Gene Hackman found dead alongside wife at Santa Fe home

The world of cinema is mourning the loss of two-time Oscar winner and author Gene Hackman, 95, who was found deceased alongside his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, 63.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed in the early hours that the couple and their dog had tragically passed away. In a statement given to local press, Sheriff Mendoza clarified that there were no signs of foul play, though the cause of death and exact time of passing remain undisclosed, reports the Mirror.The sheriff said: "All I can say is that we're in the middle of a preliminary death investigation, waiting on approval of a search warrant." The couple had been married since 1991.

Gene, who turned 95 in late January, was known for living quite a reclusive life and his last movie role was in 2024, when he played the role of Monroe 'Eagle' Cole in political satire Welcome to Mooseport.

He shot to fame after his acclaimed turn in 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde in 1967, which he followed with a host of much-loved films and TV series, such as Superman, The French Connection and Get Shorty.
