The mysterious deaths of Hollywood legend Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa and their pet pooch Zena have left fans and police searching for answers. The 95 year old Oscar winner, his talented pianist partner aged 65, and one of their beloved dogs were discovered in their opulent Santa Fe mansion on February 26.
In a dramatic announcement by chief medical examiner Dr Heather Jarrell, the duo's cause of death was detailed in what turned out to be an extraordinary press briefing last Friday.
Ahead of Dr Jarrell's crucial update, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza took to the podium, stating that they are still piecing together this baffling puzzle as they expect further results from comprehensive forensic tests.
Discussing the ongoing inquiry during the conference, he mentioned: "Zena, the deceased dog, has been taken for a necropsy at the veterinary diagnostic services and we'll be awaiting those results." He later went on to explain: "Cell phone information and the cell phone data is pending, we're working with state police to get the information from those phones but our investigation shows all the last communication and activity from Ms Arakawa was on February 11." During a press conference peppered with questions, Sheriff Mendoza mentioned that mobile phones might offer more insights into the deaths of a couple under investigation.
