There are many famous names in the pages of Scotland’s history books. But how many do you really know? Have you heard of David Livingstone?David Attenborough created a television programme on Livingstone way back in 1965.
He retraced the steps of the famous explorer during his time in Sub-Saharan Africa and visited the same sights his inspiration did before him.
And now you can too on home soil at the David Livingstone Birthplace exhibition in Blantyre.Time for a history lesson. Born in 1813 in Blantyre, Livingstone was a Scottish physician and missionary.
His missionary work would take him to Southern/Central Africa, he then went on to explore the region before making it his life-long mission to abolish the East African Slave Trade.You can step into the room he was born in, as it’s in the building of the museum.
