Larkhall school to join in with Tesco fruit and veg scheme

Pupils at a Larkhall school will be filling up on fruity flavours after being included in a special supermarket partnership.Craigbank Primary is to receive funding from Tesco to ensure that every pupil wil receive at least one piece of fruit or veg at school every day – adding up to 110 healthy items over the course of the school year.It is one of 400 schools across the UK chosen to be included in the retailer’s new £4 million Fruit and Veg for Schools scheme, developed with the British Nutrition Foundation and Groundwork UK to give pupils “a healthy and nutritious boost”.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Supermarket officials say they expect to see the fruit and veg intake of youngsters at participating schools increase by 23 per cent, compared to only one in five children currently meeting the five-a-day recommendation.The £4m funding is being used support pupils in schools where there is an above-average free meal ratio.
