Landmarks across North Lanarkshire light up in support of Ukraine

Airdrie’s boulevard of lights and North Lanarkshire’s council headquarters have been lit up in blue and yellow to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

The 40,000 bulbs adorning the trees lining busy Alexander Street at West End and Centenary parks have been specially illuminated in the colours of the country’s flag.Blue and yellow lights have also been switched on at the authority’s Civic Centre headquarters in Motherwell as a further gesture of support following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

He said: “Anyone watching the news each night can only be appalled and horrified at the invasion and the devastation it is having on so many individuals and families throughout Ukraine.“In North Lanarkshire, we want to show our immense appreciation of the bravery and courage of the Ukranian people and the lights show that we are standing against this invasion.“We want to send a clear message of peace and let the people of Ukraine know that we are standing with them and thinking of them during this unimaginably dark time.”Residents and community groups across Lanarkshire are showing their support in a range of ways including by donating
