Terrified locals have told how teenage tearaways have made Rutherglen's Main Street unsafe to walk at night.Residents say that trouble with youths in the area has escalated in recent months, with fires being started outside the old Mecca Bingo building, items being thrown at locals leaving pubs in the area, and bottles being smashed over the street.
Local police have confirmed to Lanarkshire Live that there has been a recent increase in incidents and that additional patrols by cops are now taking place.

"It's not just teenagers mucking about for a laugh - they are looking for a fight."The lane at Mecca Bingo is always being used by them, you can see them starting fires there all the time and smashing bottles all over the place."They'll be up at the pubs like the Wetherspoons too, hassling folk going in and out.
I've seen them fling things like 'house for sale' boards at people - and from what's said from folk in the pub, this is a common occurrence."I have watched them steal a load of stuff from stores then just smash it all up in the tunnels."They are completely running amok and it's a nightmare for anyone trying to go around the street after dark."Rutherglen police
