Lanarkshire's lack of public loos is more than a wee problem

The closure of public toilet facilities in areas including South Lanarkshire is having a negative impact on physical and mental health, according to new research.The study reveals that lack of access to public conveniences caused by council cuts is leading to urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney and bladder problems, as well as feelings of stress, anxiety and social isolation.When the SNP came to power in Scotland in 2007, there were 25 public toilets and four automated, self-cleaning public ‘superloos’ operated by South Lanarkshire Council (SLC).The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
