Lanarkshire post office will not reopen

A Lanarkshire post office which has been closed for the past year will not reopen.The Strutherhill branch at Scotia Crescent in Larkhall shut in October 2022, and Post Office representatives have now announced that they “are not looking to replace this branch”.Customers are instead being directed to the nearest branch, located a mile away at Union Street in Larkhall.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

The announcement states that the Strutherhill facility “closed last year for reasons beyond our control as the postmaster resigned and withdrew the premises for Post Office use”.It reads: “Since then we have been exploring options for restoring a Post Office service in the area – unfortunately, we have been unable to identify a suitable solution and as there have been no suitable opportunities to re-establish a service, this branch will remain closed.” The Post Office add that there has been a wider review of the branch network, analysing demand and accessibility for customers amid “a very challenging economic climate” – and confirms: “Consequently, we are not looking to replace
