Lanarkshire MSP hits out at reintroduction of ScotRail peak time train tickets

A Lanarkshire MSP has accused SNP ministers of ‘going backwards’ on cost-of-living and climate action by announcing the reintroduction of ScotRail peak time train tickets from next month.

Described as a “bitter blow” to hard-pressed Lanarkshire rail passengers by Scottish Labour MSP Monica Lennon, the Scottish Government confirmed that a pilot scheme that abolished peak-time fares will not be extended or made permanent.Lennon, who represents the Central Scotland region, also sits on the Scottish Parliament’s Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee, warned the SNP was sending the publicly owned rail operator into a “spiral of decline” with an 8.7 per cent price hike in April already pricing out many people from taking the train.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Peak local trains from Hamilton Central to Glasgow Central will go up from £5.80 to £8.90, a 50 per cent rise at a time when bills are rising across the board.
