Lanarkshire MP backs calls for halt to closure of local Post Office branches

East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow MP Dr Lisa Cameron is backing calls for a halt to the closure of local Post Offices.

It comes as the Post Office confirmed this week that St Leonards branch would remain closed as no new operator could be found.The branch closed last year when RS McColl's - where it was based - shut up shop.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

The MP told Lanarkshire Live : "I continue to raise the matter of these closures within Parliament and also to work closely with Post Office Services and local councillors, particularly those affected in Westwood and St Leonards East Kilbride, to identify urgent ways forward for the recommissioning of these vital services.” A recently published Citizens Advice Bureau report calls attention to how closures affect constituents and businesses across the UK.It states 1291 post offices UK-wide were ‘temporarily closed’ in September 2021 and eight in 10 of those have been closed for over a year.And it goes on
