Lanarkshire community groups awarded grants to celebrate town's birthday

Community grants have been given out in East Kilbride as part of its 75th anniversary celebrations.The new town turned 75 in May and South Lanarkshire Council has granted funding for projects to celebrate the occasion.To commemorate the anniversary, applications were invited by the council from groups to host events which reflected the type of celebrations the community identified throughout an engagement process.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Nine groups were awarded and a total of £10,000 was given out.The funding was allocated from the East Kilbride area’s community grants budget.Special Needs Adventure Playground were granted £1500 for an EK@75 themed four-week summer playscheme.East Kilbride and District Dementia Carers’ Group were given £1800 for high tea for service users and staff to celebrate EK@75 and the Queen’s Jubilee.Friends of Langlands Moss were given £1000 to plant up to 150 trees.Share Alike was granted £2000 to create a wall and shop front mural by local children who worked with an artist.Sea Cadet Corps East Kilbride Unit 550 were given £500 for a joint birthday party for East Kilbride and the Cadets’ 50th anniversary.Encore Stars Academy were granted £2000 for a live streamed performance in EK@75
