Labour has turned up the heat on the SNP over its opposition to a windfall tax on energy giant profits.Shadow Scotland Secretary Ian Murray has written to Nationalist MPs urging them to withdraw a motion on energy which does not include a windfall tax.The SNP will use an opposition day motion in the House of Commons to call for the UK Government to commit to a public investment programme. But it does not call for energy firms to pay more tax after they made bumper profits off the public's high energy bills.Murray said he was "appalled" by Humza Yousaf and Stephen Flynn's opposition to the windfall tax, which they announced on Monday. He also asked the SNP MPs if they "side with the third of Scottish households in fuel poverty, or do you side with multinational energy companies?"Murray said in a letter: "A key component of the funding of our plan is an extension to the windfall tax on the excess profits made oil and gas companies over the next Parliament."These plans will help generate the revenue to invest in Scotland’s green industry."I am completely appalled to learn that Humza Yousaf and Stephen Flynn oppose our plans for a windfall tax on companies which earned a huge £33 billion in profits last year, while a third of households in Scotland are living in fuel poverty and there were 521 avoidable deaths in Scotland last winter because of cold homes."Your party’s position is that nurses in Scotland should be paying higher income taxes, while oil and gas giants should be paying lower taxes.

There is nothing progressive about that."He continued: "Do you side with the third of Scottish households in fuel poverty, or do you side with multinational energy companies?"Are you on the side of higher taxes for nurses, but not oil
