The sister of murdered MP Jo Cox was today chosen to defend her old seat for Labour at a crunch by-election. Kim Leadbeater said she was “overwhelmed” to be picked as the candidate for the Batley and Spen ballot in West Yorkshire.
A poll will be held after the sitting MP, former Coronation Street actress Tracy Brabin, quit to become the county's Metro Mayor.
Ms Leadbeater, 45, said: “I am overwhelmed and humbled by the support and faith from members in Batley and Spen. “I'm ready to hit the ground running and take Labour's campaign to local people.” No date for the election has been set but it is expected to take place in July.
