A Labour MP who broke lockdown to meet her married lover has branded herself "hypocritical" and "ashamed". Rosie Duffield told constituents "I am so, so sorry" after the Mail on Sunday revealed she met partner James Routh in April.

The statement comes after she stood down as a Labour whip over the breach - but insisted she will continue as MP for Canterbury.

Ms Duffield, 48, broke coronavirus restrictions to meet TV director James Routh, 45 The pair had gone on a five-hour walk together, and Ms Duffield later let Mr Routh visit her home while he was still living with his wife, with whom he shares three children.
