A Labour MP is urging the UK Government to think about giving 'lifetime' Blue Badge parking permits to those with permanent health conditions.
Julia Buckley raised the matter with the Department for Transport, which is responsible for the Blue Badge system, questioning whether it would be advantageous to make awards for life to individuals with enduring conditions.
The most recent statistics indicate there are close to three million Blue Badge holders in Great Britain. Blue Badges, generally valid for three years, carry a fee of £20 in Scotland a maximum of £10 in England, and come at no charge in Wales.
In her reply on Thursday, the new Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood explained that renewing every three years allows councils to re-evaluate eligibility for the scheme.
