St Mirren's European push has been given a major boost with the news Kwon Kyeok-Kyu has been left out of South Korea’s squad for the Under-23 Asian Cup.The on-loan Celtic midfielder was expected to be selected but has since been omitted.
The Asia Cup runs from the middle of next month with the final scheduled for the start of May. It means the 23-year-old will now be available for St Mirren’s final eight games of the season.
St Mirren are currently fifth and pushing Kilmarnock for a top four place. Kwon is on-loan for the campaign although Saints boss Stephen Robinson is keen to extend that agreement into the end of the season.
Celtic signed him from Busan Park back in 2022.The midfielder could still spend the summer on international duty. There is a fair chance Kwon could be selected for South Korea’s Olympic squad.
