Follow OK! on Threads here: https://www.threads.net/@ok_mag Broadcaster and journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy has been named as the fourth celebrity contestant confirmed for the brand new series of Strictly Come Dancing.The exciting news was announced today by Strictly co-host Claudia Winkleman on her BBC Radio 2 show.The 53 year old journalist - best known as the main anchor of Channel 4 News, as well as hosting live debates for Channel 4 during elections - admitted he's "surprised, delighted and slightly confused" to find himself taking part "on the basis of 'you only live once!'". "I can’t wait to start learning to dance," he added. "But I am slightly worried about my general decrepitude," Krishnan told fans of the much-loved dance competition." "I know I’m going to love it and have a brilliant time and just hope I’m not the only one enjoying my participation," added the on-screen favourite, who last year bagged the Royal Television Society Journalism Award for best Network Presenter in 2022.
Krishnan - who in his illustrious career has covered major events as the Omagh bombing, 911 attacks, Arab Spring and Ukraine War - joins Amanda Abbington, Angela Rippon CBE and Layton Williams on the series, who were announced last night.
The first name to be released was actress Amanda, with the news being revealed by a delighted Alex Jones on last night's instalment of BBC’s The One Show "I’m really excited and incredibly nervous!" the on-screen star - who is well known for her role as John Watson’s wife in the BBC series Sherlock - admitted on the show.
Also announced to be taking part at the time was Strictly soon-to-be oldest ever contest, broadcaster Angela Rippon, who will be 78 years old when she performs her first.
