Gorillaz’s self-titled debut celebrates its 19th anniversary on March 26, the album is best known for its Del The Funky Homosapien-featuring single “Clint Eastwood.” In a 2016 interview with Genius, Del talked about how his verse quickly came together with a little prodding from producer Dan the Automator.
At the time, Del and Dan were working on their debut album as Deltron 3030 while Dan was contributing to the Gorillaz project.
Dan asked Del to help with vocals on what became “Clint Eastwood,” a song written from the perspective of virtual band member Russel, who is being haunted by the memory of a dead friend. “Late at night, we’d already finished recording and stuff, and I didn’t want to do nothing else.
