A man has been jailed after frozen chicken pallets containing a £1.8m cocaine haul was discovered by police. Officers say Edward Durnion went to collect the delivery, but was detained by cops who found 200 kilos of drugs.
The 36-year-old from Crackley Lane, Kenilworth, visited a frozen food wholesaler in London to collect the supply but police got there before him and swapped the illicit substance for books.
He admitted supplying cocaine at Stafford Crown Court on Tuesday and was sentenced to nine years in prison.Birmingham Live reports West Midlands Police's Regional Organised Crime Unit initially went to a wholesaler in a north London business park in March as part of an investigation into another batch of drugs recovered last November.
The manager told officers some product from the same supplier arrived that morning and the pallet was searched, revealing more cocaine in boxes underneath the frozen chicken.
