A tree has been planted in Irvine’s Eglinton Park to commemorate King Charles’ Coronation.Saplings have been planted by local authorities across the UK in a nod to the King’s love of nature and the environment.Lord-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran, Iona McDonald, and North Ayrshire Provost Anthea Dickson proudly did the honours on Monday, March 4 with support from members of the Ground Force voluntary group at the park.Lord-Lieutenant McDonald, who is His Majesty’s personal representative, said: “It is only fitting that we have a lasting tribute to His Royal Highness who, as we all know, is very passionate about the environment.”The Coronation of King Charles III and his wife Camilla took place on Saturday, May 6 last year at Westminster Abbey.Provost Dickson said: “It was a privilege, on behalf of the people of North Ayrshire, to assist in marking the King’s Coronation with the planting of a Prunus Royal Burgundy Tree.“His Royal Highness has always been clear about his dedication to conservation and wildlife – both of which are key elements of Eglinton Park - and this tree is a permanent reminder of this.” Read next: Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines – sign up to our free daily newsletter
