King Charles and Queen Camilla have left Buckingham Palace in a carriage as Trooping the Colour gets under way in London. The King, who first attended the royal event when he was two years old, was seen riding in a carriage - as opposed to the traditional horseback - due to his cancer treatment. The King was seen waving a gloved hand to the crowds gathered to watch the procession. The Queen, wearing a large brimmed hat and seated to his left, was also seen waving.

Crowds of people have gathered outside Buckingham Palace ahead of Trooping the Colour, with many holding Union flags. Jane Ing, 61, told the PA news agency she had travelled from Yorkshire with her husband and a friend to witness the royal procession through The Mall ahead of the ceremony.

She said: “The ceremony is part of our heritage. “It’s an iconic parade and exhibition of our royal family that we should be proud about and come to support.” She added it was “lovely” that the Princess of Wales has announced she will be in attendance.

Despite battling cancer, the 75 year old monarch is resolute about participating in the official birthday festivities but adjustments are being made to the annual event's proceedings to accommodate his health situation, with Buckingham Palace and the Ministry of Defence having spent weeks deliberating potential modifications.
