King Charles misses event over health, as Prince William 'steps up' to fill role

Prince William 'stepped up' for King Charles at a poignant D-Day event on Thursday, after it was deemed "a step too far" for the King to attend amid his ongoing cancer treatment.It has been confirmed by Royal insiders that King Charles will be absent from the international ceremony, following medical advice due to his current health situation.

Instead, Prince William will represent the Royal family at the Omaha Beach event, alongside global leaders such as US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron, reports the Mirror.The King expressed his delight that his son William would be stepping in for him for the first time.

Despite his health concerns, the monarch was adamant about attending the 80th anniversary D-Day commemorations in Portsmouth, where he paid a heartfelt tribute to the thousands who served and lost their lives on D-Day, June 6, 1944.Both Charles and Queen Camilla were present at the British memorial event at Ver-Sur-Mer, Normandy, organised by the British Royal Legion.

During his speech, Charles told those gathered: "It is with the most profound sense of gratitude that we remember them and all who served at that critical time."Veterans were visibly moved during Charles' address at the national commemorative event, wiping away tears as they listened.
