There have now been 76 cases of salmonella in the UK linked to Kinder products, the UK Health Security Agency has confirmed. The majority of the cases are in children under five years of age and have been linked to products made in one of Ferrero’s factories in Belgium, according to the UKHSA.The agency says that they are continuing to work with food standards and health bodies to “ensure that the risk to public health is minimised as far as possible”.The news comes after Kinder Surprise eggs were recalled ahead of Easter as a precautionary measure, following reported cases of salmonella poisoning across the UK.

Two young boys in Dundee were among those affected, along with their mother Leah Laidlaw who said that the painful stomach cramps almost left her in tears. “It was just horrendous.

All three of us were just floored. I’ve never experienced anything like that in my life,” she said. The UKHSA is continuing to remind shoppers that a range of Kinder products should not be eaten. These include Kinder Surprise, Kinder Mini Eggs, Kinder Surprise 100g and Kinder Schoko-Bons.They now advise that all of these products, regardless of their best-before date, should not be eaten, as the recall includes all Kinder products that were made at the Belgium site from June 2021.Dr Lesley Larkin, surveillance lead at the UKHSA, said: “Symptoms of salmonellosis typically resolve themselves within a few days.

However, symptoms can be more severe, especially in young children and those with weakened immune systems.“Anybody with concerns that they have symptoms of salmonellosis should contact their GP or call NHS 111.
