Pupils at Shawhead School have delivered make your own soup kits to the senior citizens in their village as part of The Big Scottish Story Ripple of Kindness Project. The children harvested potatoes and onions from the school vegetable bed then created their own soup recipe, testing it with an in-school cooking session. The finalised recipe was then handwritten by the children.A special seasoning mix was added and the final soup bags contained potatoes, onions, seasoning, a stock cube and a recipe card. The bags were sealed with a label saying “You’re Souper!”The children set off in the wind and rain to deliver their bags to some of the local senior citizens. The recipients of the soup kits were delighted and enjoyed having a chat with the children. In return for doing this good deed for their community, the children are going to be rewarded with a story telling session on Hallowe’en.Susi Sweet Pea Fairy will be visiting the school on the afternoon of October 31 to tell some traditional stories, talk about some Scottish Hallowe’en traditions and play some games with the children.
