Ripley’s Believe It or Not! says it is “confident” that damage was not caused to Marilyn Monroe's dress when it was worn by Kim Kardashian at this year’s Met Gala.
Marilyn's iconic dress was worn for her famous 1962 performance of Happy Birthday to US president John F Kennedy and is the most expensive dress ever sold at auction, having gone under the hammer for $4.8 million (£4m).
Kim, 41, lost a whopping 16lbs in just three weeks to fit into the dress and wore it for just minutes on the red carpet at the Met before changing into a replica. The franchise has now said said despite the controversy over the reality TV star wearing the dress to the exclusive fashion event in New York, the garment was “in the same condition it started in”.
Outrage was sparked online after photos posted online by collector Scott Fortner – a Marilyn historian and collector – appeared to show damage to the back of the gown following the gala. The snaps appear to show some crystals missing, while the zip has looks to be more distressed.
