Coronavirus could be behind the disappearance of Kim Jong-un's wife from the public eye for more than a year, an expert on North Korea has said.

Ri Sol-ju, 32, was last seen in January 25 2020 when she joined her dictator husband at a Lunar New Year performance at a theatre in Pyongyang.

The supreme leader is believed to have married Ri, from Chongjin, in North Korea's northern Hamgyong Province, in 2009. The couple were spotted sitting beside Kim’s 74-year-old aunt Kim Kyong-hui, who had been absent from public affairs for more than six years after helping him rise to power.

But fears are growing for Ri after she mysteriously vanished from view, with one expert speculating she could be gone because of the pandemic, NK News reports.
