A litter pick squad are to move in on Renfrew to target secondary school kids who just toss away containers and other waste during lunch breaks.Some Renfrew High pupils are said to be behind the worst of the lunchtime littering in Lobnitz Avenue and Glebe Street.The spot is closer to Trinity High, but town councillor Jane Strang said locals have told her it is groups from Renfrew High that are to blame.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.Now police have agreed to attend the school and speak to kids.Councillor Strang, conservative member of Renfrew North and Braehead, is pressing for “tougher action” against the rubbish rogues.She has been contacted by concerned constituents over the behaviour, concentrated in the two streets and even even beside the town’s cenotaph.Councillor Strang has taken the concerns up with council officials and local police officers.Renfrewshire Council has agreed to put a litter pick squad into the area who will engage with pupils over behaving responsibly.The police have also committed to trying for community wardens and for a community police officer to attend Renfrew High.Councillor Strang said: “Litter is a real scourge in our communities and I was deeply disappointed to hear of pupils behaving in this manner.“Nobody living locally should be feeling intimidated by young people in our town or feel unable to confront them when they drop litter.“As we recover from the pandemic, we must ensure that our town centres are vibrant and attractive places to come and visit and work in.
