A huge office block in Bury town centre is to be converted into 73 rental flats. This week, Bury council named build-to-rent developer Placefirst as the preferred partner to convert the 30,000 sq ft office site at Humphrey House.

Work is set to start on the site later this year and be completed by 2027. In 2021, the decision was made to transfer around 250 workers from Humphrey House, a 1970s office block fronting Angouleme Way.

At that time it housed several council and NHS Trust departments. The council said it was ‘surplus to requirements’ and would bring a ‘significant capital receipt once disposed of for redevelopment’.

Among the departments formerly housed at the building were Bury Community Mental Health Service and Bury Drug and Alcohol Team.
