City were frustrated for long periods in their Champions League quarter-final first leg against the Spanish champions, as Atletico defended deep and in numbers to prevent the Blues from getting near Jan Oblak's goal.
It was an approach City will have expected from Diego Simeone's side, and looked to be working until Phil Foden's introduction on 70 minutes.
80 seconds later, Foden fed De Bruyne to break the deadlock and give City a well-earned lead going into the second leg. "It was a very hard game, they play so defensively tight," De Bruyne told BT Sport. "They're solid, it's their way of playing.
