Kerry Katona rejoices as former accountant who 'bankrupted her' pleads guilty
ok.co.ukKerry Katona's former accountant, David Williams, who she claims is the reason for her bankruptcy, has admitted to fraud charges.The 67 year old, also known as David McHugh, will face sentencing at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in October after he pleaded guilty to four counts of deception, along with charges of falsely operating as an insolvency practitioner and a qualified barrister.
He was initially set to stand trial this month but later opted to plead guilty. Williams was charged with these offences in May 2020 following an investigation by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB).The court heard that he had been charged after a "vast" probe into allegations that he had been impersonating a barrister and had billed approximately €1.2m to around 1,500 clients for various legal services.
The English national ran two firms offering diverse legal services in Dublin and County Wicklow from January 2019 until the end of 2020.
He promoted the firms on Facebook, where he portrayed himself as a barrister. Williams received payment for legal services in areas such as immigration, divorce, personal injuries, and personal insolvency, reports the Mirror.
