Kenan Thompson is the first Saturday Night Live cast member to address musical guest Morgan Wallen‘s early exit from this past weekend’s episode.
At the end of the episode on Saturday (March 29), the 31-year-old country music singer appeared to something to host Mikey Madison before giving her a one-armed hug and walked off the stage as the rest of the cast stayed on stage, as is customary for every episode during the ending credits roll.
Following the now-viral moment, Kenan, who is the longest-tenured cast member, shared his thoughts on the situation. Keep reading to find out more…“I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that,” Kenan told Entertainment Weekly. “I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way.” Kenan went on to say that he “definitely saw” Morgan abruptly leaving the stage, adding, “You see somebody before you get a chance to say hi or say good job or anything like that, they just dipping.
I thought maybe he had to go to the potty or something.” He also said that viewers weren’t the only ones taken aback by Morgan leaving the stage before the end credits even started rolling. “It’s definitely a spike in the norm,” Kenan said. “We’re so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody’s saying, ‘Good job, good job, good job.’ So when there’s a departure from that, it’s like, hmm, I wonder what that’s about?” Kenan pointed out that he “never met” Morgan during his most recent appearance on the show or when he first performed as the musical guest in December 2020.
