Fans have slammed Katie Hopkins for mocking Kate Garraway in light of the tragic death of her husband, Derek Draper. Good Morning Britain star Kate, 56, was devastated this month when her husband Derek lost his life following an almost four year fight against Covid.

The former political lobbyist was struck down by the disease shortly after the UK's first lockdown in March 2020 - and he was one of the worst affected Covid patients in the world.

Derek, 56, was in a coma for almost three months and was subsequently left unable to speak. He remained in hospital for more than a year afterwards and was finally allowed home in April 2021 but required round the clock care, reports the Mirror.Kate had flown with Derek to Mexico in November last year to undergo a new treatment in the hope it would help his condition, however he sadly suffered a heart attack while in the North American country.Derek came back to the UK and was treated in an intensive care unit but sadly passed away on January 3 due to complication caused by Covid. He left behind Kate and their two children; Darcy, 17, and Billy, 14.Over the weekend, Katie Hopkins, 48, took to social media to spitefully mock Kate.

The disgraced broadcaster - who was fired from her LBC show in 2017 when she made comments about the Manchester Arena bombing, and was banned from Twitter in 2020 for “violations of our hateful conduct policy” - posted a video discussing Kate’s family tragedy.Hopkins took swigs of red wine from a glass, and laughed while mocking Kate, saying ITV would hand her a TV special and a book deal to discuss Derek’s tragic passing.
