Kate Thornton has told of her heartbreak following her sacking by Simon Cowell. Simon, 60, showed Kate, 47, the door in 2006 after the second series of The X Factor, even though Kate had considered the music mogul "a friend." She was replaced in the third series by Dermot O'Leary.

Chatting to the In The Pink podcast, Kate told: "They didn't renew my contract having said that they would - and by they, I mean Simon. "It was on the News at Ten.
