Kate Middleton made a subtle but stylish nod to female empowerment this week, as she attended a royal engagement with a particularly poignant piece of jewellery.

The Princess of Wales wowed staff and patients on Wednesday when she visited Royal Surrey County Hospital’s maternity unit, dressed in a mustard yellow dress, to hear more about the the holistic support it provides to pregnant women and new mothers to ensure they receive the best possible care throughout and beyond their pregnancies.

However, it wasn’t just Kate’s sunshine hued Karen Millen dress that was drawing attention, but also the hidden meaning behind a pair of stunning white gold and diamond pear earrings by Emily Mortimer Jewellery that completed her look.

The £795 earrings were part of the designer’s Hera collection and inspired by the Greek goddess of the same name.
