Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway says it has been a particularly difficult week for her husband, Derek Draper. The former lobbyist is recovering from a harrowing COVID-19 battle after contracting the illness in March.
He was hospitalised and put into a medically induced coma which lasted 13 weeks, and he awoke in July but is not fully conscious.
Kate has been visiting him and GMB is played into his hospital room in the hope hearing his wife’s voice may help him wake up.
Derek's recovery will be a slow process as the virus has "attacked everything", leaving him with clots in his lungs, holes in his heart and made him diabetic, and doctors have warned Kate that Derek might never recover from the damage done to his body.
